Our Disney Christmas adventure started today. We are heading to Port Canaveral with Darrell’s parents to board a Disney Cruise ship for a week long western Caribbean cruise. Then we’ll be spending a week in Orlando checking out the Disney World parks. We’ll be on the cruise ship for Christmas and in Orlando to ring in the new year.
We spent last night at the Delta hotel at the Calgary Airport in case the weather was bad. We didn’t want to fight wintery roads during rush hour to get to the airport this morning. Lucky we did since it snowed 20 to 30 centimeters on Tuesday. The hotel was decent and made for a much more relaxed morning getting to the airport.
The kids woke us up around 6:30am this morning. We had a shower and packed up our luggage before leaving the room at 7:45am. We crossed the street to the airport and got ourselves checked in with a minor hiccup while checking in the luggage. One of our suitcases tilted slightly on the conveyor belt which made the machine angry and it decided it was broken. We had to find another machine to check in our last two suitcases.
Once we were through security and customs, we grabbed some breakfast at the food court. The kids and Grandma and Grandpa grabbed some food at Burger King while Darrell and Amanda grabbed breakfast from Spolumbos. After breakfast we walked over to the gate to board the plane.
We boarded the plane around 9:20am and were taking off by 10:00am. The trip in the plane was uneventful. We were in the plus seats on WestJet which was a nice perk. The kids were well behaved. The flight crew was very friendly and had a good sense of humour.
We arrived at the Orlando International Airport at 4:25pm Orlando time. We made our way to baggage claim where we met our driver Dave. We hired a van to shuttle us to our hotel in Cape Canaveral. We waited for our luggage to arrive. Our luggage was some of the last to show up on the conveyor belt, but it all arrived safe and sound. We made our way to the van and were off to Cape Canaveral!
About an hour later we arrived at Raddison Resort at the Port which is our hotel for the next couple of nights. We changed into some shorts and went to Kelsey’s Restaurant and Pizzeria for dinner. The kids were not impressed. They wanted to go for a swim first. The restaurant was right beside the hotel. The food was quite good. Half of us had pizza and the other half had pasta.
After dinner we returned the hotel, got changed, and headed to the pool. We swan for about 45 minutes before returning to the room putting the kids to bed. Darrell and Amanda weren’t far behind.
Overall, it was a pretty good travel day. Tomorrow we’re off to the Kennedy Space Center!
