We flew from Calgary to Toronto yesterday. We were delayed by an hour and a half so didn’t land in Toronto until almost 1:00am. We got up, had some lunch in the hotel and headed to the airport for our 11:50 am flight to Montego Bay, Jamaica. The in-flight entertainment system wasn’t working for us but, luckily, we had some movies loaded on our laptops so were able to watch those along the way.
We arrived at the Montego Bay airport shortly before 4:00pm. We had to go through immigration where they had the option of in-person screening or automated machines. We chose the automated machines, which it turns out, was the right way to go. The line of people for the in-person screening was very long. After exiting immigration, we found the Sandals lounge where they provided us with drinks and comfortable seats while we waited for our transfer to the resort. Our names were called shortly before 5:00pm and we were loaded into a private BMW transfer to the resort. They drive British style in Jamaica (drive on the left and steering wheel is on the right).
Upon arrival at the resort, we were escorted to the Club Sandals office where we were offered a drink and asked to await the arrival of our butler. Amanda was greeted by the sales manager who offered her a tour of the over water rooms the next day since she is a travel agent. Our butler Sheldon arrived a short time later.
Sheldon gave us a tour of the property before taking us to and giving us a tour of our room. There was a bottle of champagne and a fruit platter waiting for us as well. They had stocked the bar with our requested liquor and drinks. Unfortunately, there is a tree right in front of our patio so we don’t have a very good view.
We unpacked and then went for a walk through the resort before stopping for a bite to eat at the Regency Suite restaurant. We were seated at a table on the balcony along the water’s edge illuminated by torchlight. It was a very pleasant dinner. We both had fried calamari as an appetizer. Amanda had surf and turf (steak and lobster) and I had a chorizo, chicken, and scallop skewer for our main courses. We both had a delicious chocolate mousse cake for dessert.
After dinner, we returned to our room for a bit before heading to the main pool for Reggae Fest. They had a live reggae band perform for us. We enjoyed the sounds of the band and did a little dancing for about an hour until the band finished their set. We returned to the room afterwards and called it a night.
