Today was similar to yesterday. We go up and headed to Regency Suite for breakfast. They offer a fairly standard breakfast buffet with a couple of Jamaican twists such as banana syrup for the pancakes and french toast. After breakfast we stopped in at the gift shop and looked around. We had a nice chat with one of the ladies manning the shop about the cold weather back home. She has a family member who moved to Canada. She can’t believe he can stay in a country that cold. It was pretty funny. Amanda picked up a water shirt and we headed back to the room to change for the beach. Amanda was still feeling warm and sore from the sunburn so we decided to find a shady spot to lay in. We ended up close to where we were yesterday, but we sat at the pool instead of on the beach.
We spent the afternoon relaxing around the pool, wading into the ocean, and swimming in the pool. We went to the Mariner’s Seaside Grill to grab some lunch before returning to the pool. Amanda had a fish burger and I had a jerk burger. Amanda enjoyed her burger, but mine was pretty mediocre. Back at the pool, we ran into the couple from Lacombe again briefly. They were getting their last few minutes in the water before having to head home. There were feral cats wandering around today and we witnessed a cat fight. Our butler, Andre, came by a couple of times to make sure we had everything we needed and to grab us some cocktails. He asked where we wanted to have dinner. We picked Eleanor’s which serves Caribbean cuisine. Eleanor’s does not require reservations or dressing up, but Andre told us our other butler Sheldon would escort us to the restaurant. I stepped away to take a few pictures of the beach for a few minutes and had a chat with one of the security guards. He told me we should come back later with a flashlight as some interesting sea life appears in the dark. There are local folks who kayak by the beaches trying to sell their wares. They also ask if you smoke and are willing to provide you with some weed if you do.
Around 4:30pm we headed back to the room for a bit. I went for a walk and took a few more pictures around the resort. Sheldon arrived at 6:25pm to escort us to Eleanor’s as promised. He took us to our table and grabbed us a couple of drinks before leaving us. I asked him to suprise me with a drink and he brought something called a dirty banana which was really tasty. Amanda had a crab cake for an appetizer, coconut crusted red snapper for the entree, and coconut bread pudding for dessert. Darrell had jerk chicken spring rolls, Jamaican coffee rubbed beef striploin, and an almond papaya cake. The dinner was delicious.
After dinner, we wandered around the resort for a few minutes, then headed to the stage area. It was Jamaica night. They started off the evening entertainment with a steel drum orchestra who played many well known tunes using steel drums while a few of them danced. Following that, one of the entertainment staff taught us how to speak some Jamaican while making fun of several members of the crowd. He was quite funny. Then they had some dancers perform while they played music from different eras of Jamaica’s past. We enjoyed the evenings festivities.
After the show ended, we went for a walk along the beach. We pulled our our phones and used them as flashlights like the security guard mentioned earlier in the day. We did actually see some interesting sea life including fish, sea snakes, a lobster, some crabs, and… an octopus! We returned to the room after spotting the octopus and called it a night.
