The kids woke us up at 9:00 this morning. We all wished Amanda a Happy Mother’s Day. Happy Mother’s Day to the other moms who read this! The kids gave Amanda her Mother’s Day cards then we got dressed for the day. The kids were signed up for a sushi making class at 10:00. We headed to the Windjammer for a quick pastry before making our way to the Izumi restaurant for the class. Izumi is one of the specialty restaurants on board.
There was only one other couple participating in the class. One of the chefs walked us through step by step how to create four different sushi dishes. They were a spicy tuna roll, crunchy tempura shrimp roll, shrimp sashimi, and a crab and cucumber sushi cone. Amanda helped the kids while Darrell took pictures since his arm is still in a sling. For safety reasons, we weren’t allowed to cut the rolls so the chef took care of that. He drizzled some sauce over the rolls and plated the rolls before delivering them to our table for us to enjoy. This was the first time the kids had tried sushi really so we weren’t sure if they were going to like it. It turns out they do! Michael didn’t try the spicy tuna roll since he doesn’t like spicy foods but he enjoyed the others. They only ate a couple of pieces before they were full though. Amanda and Darrell had no problems helping them finish off the rest. Amanda was in heaven.
After the sushi class, the kids went to Adventure Ocean for an hour until noon. At noon the ships clocked jumped an hour forward. It was our first of three time changes as we travel towards Vancouver. Darrell and Amanda went for a walk around the ship before returning to the room. We all relaxed in the room for a bit. Darrell and Michael headed up to the Windjammer to grab a snack. There was a big Mother’s Day cake they were serving in the Windjammer so Darrell and Michael grabbed a slice and brought it back to Amanda.
Mid-afternoon, the kids went back to Adventure Ocean. Darrell and Amanda relaxed in the room and read. Darrell needed to rest his arm for a while. The kids returned from the kids club at 5:00 and we got ourselves ready for dinner.
Royal Caribbean is turning 50 this year so they had a special birthday cake dessert offered at dinner which Michael ordered. After another delicious dinner, the kids went back to Adventure Ocean yet again. Darrell and Amanda headed to the theatre for the evening show. The show tonight was a fiddler by the name of David Klinkenberg. We enjoyed listening to him play for his 45 minute show. We walked around the ship for a bit before picking up the kids from the kids club and returning to the room and getting ready for bed.
