Amanda’s Mom and Allan are staying at our house while we’re gone to look after the dogs. They came to the house in the afternoon so we could give them a run through of everything they needed to know. Since we had to check in for our flight at 8:00am this morning, we decided to stay at the Marriott hotel at the airport overnight. It made the morning easier and we didn’t have to worry about rush hour traffic.
We got up and got dressed and headed to the departures terminal of the airport. We weren’t able to get Michael checked in for the flight ahead of time. The online system didn’t like his vaccination record for some reason. We were able to get him checked in at the terminal. We checked our bags and headed through security. We hit a little snag at US customs. It turns out Amanda hadn’t activated her Nexus card when she renewed it so they couldn’t process her properly. They allowed her to try to activate her card quickly on her phone while they processed the next people in line. Luckily, she was able to get the card activated and they allowed us through customs. They would have had to send her to secondary inspection if the activation didn’t work.
After making it through customs, we had a couple of hours still until our flight so went to the Wolfgang Puck restaurant for some breakfast. Patrick wasn’t paying attention when he ordered and he ordered grapefruit juice thinking he was ordering grape juice. He wasn’t too impressed when he took his first sip. We made him drink it anyway. After breakfast, we grabbed a few snacks for the plane and waited at the gate. Before too long we were on the plane and flying to Honolulu!
Our friends, the Bryans, met us at the baggage claim. They moved to Hawaii a couple of years ago and it was good to see them again. We chatted while we waited for our bags to arrive. We headed to the car rental area and picked up the keys to our rental car. We said goodbye to the Bryans briefly while we picked up the car and drove to their house. Michael went with them so he could chat with their daughter Flora. Their son, Felix, came with us so he could chat with Patrick.
We spent the evening chatting and catching up.
