It was a sad morning. We had to say goodbye to the Bryans. We had some breakfast, finished packing up our things, said our goodbyes, and headed to the airport. We got checked in at the airport and headed to our gate for our 11:15am flight to Maui.
The flight left on time. We were in the airport about three times longer than we were in the air. It’s only about a half hour flight between the islands. We had just enough time in the air for a quick drink service before we were descending. Patrick thinks he saw some whales while we were descending to Maui. Upon arrival in Maui, we met up with Darrell’s parents at the baggage claim. While Amanda and the kids waited for the luggage, Darrell and Jim headed to the car rental office to get Darrell added as a second driver on the rental car. Once that was taken care of, they met up with everyone else and got into the van.
We stopped at Costco for a bite to eat and to grab a few supplies. Then we headed to the Maui Ocean Center. Michael has been dying to visit the aquarium. We spend a couple of hours touring the exhibits. They don’t have any large animals like whales, dolphins, or sea lions. But they do have a lot of fish, coral, jellyfish, and turtles. They also have a few sharks and stingrays. We did see a whale slapping it’s tail off the shore though.
We headed to the condo at Honua Kai after leaving the Ocean Center. We spent the remainder of the afternoon and evening getting acquainted with the resort and relaxing. It’s a nice place, but it’s big. There are around 400 condo units plus several villa buildings. There are a few pools which the kids are happy about and were quick to try out. The units are father back from the water than the Mahana next door so it’s harder to see the whales which is unfortunate.
