When we woke up this morning, we were docked in Mykonos at the “New Port”. That was a nice surprise as we were originally told we would be tendering in Mykonos. There were three other ships anchored in the bay; MSC Sinfonia, Costa Deliziosa, and Rhapsody of the Seas. We didn’t have any tour booked today so we weren’t in a rush this morning. There is a virtual reality experience on board in the Seaplex (for an extra cost of course) that Patrick and Michael really wanted to do. Unfortunately, Michael doesn’t meet the age requirement. The only time we could reserve for Patrick was at 10:00am this morning. We woke Patrick up around 9:00am and got him cleaned up and fed and then off to the Seaplex for his experience. He was teamed up with three other people and they had to complete an adventure. It lasted about 45 minutes and he really enjoyed it. Darrell was kicking himself for not reserving two spaces.

While Patrick was having fun, the rest of us had some breakfast in the Windjammer Market. We all met back in the room by 11:00am and then got ready to leave the ship. We got ourselves sun screened and headed off the ship. We realized as soon as we stepped out of the ship that it was a very windy day. There isn’t much around the new port so Mykonos has a water bus that you can take over to the old port, or you can walk there in about 30 minutes. We chose to take the water bus which cost 2 Euros per person each way. It’s supposed to be a 5 minute ride, but our boat circled the old port for quite a while before docking for some reason. Once docked, we started wandering the streets of Mykonos.

There is a beach right by the old port and Michael wanted to go swimming but there were a lot of waves due to the wind. Instead he satisfied himself by dipping his feet in the water. We made our way into the buildings and wandered through the streets stopping in the occasional shop to look for souvenirs. There were a lot of people in the streets with four ships in port. There were a few times we came across folks trying to drive their cars down the narrow streets full of tourists. We had to hop into a store or entryway to let them pass. We felt bad for them and wouldn’t want to be driving down these streets. We made our way to the windmills that Mykonos is famous for. After spending some time admiring the view and the windmills, we continued exploring the streets.

We stopped at a local restaurant to grab some Gyros for lunch. They were very tasty. Patrick wasn’t looking like himself and he was starting to feel a little ill during lunch which had us concerned. We explored a little more and backtracked to a couple of shops that the boys wanted to buy souvenirs from. Darrell also found some baklava for a snack later. Patrick was feeling a little better walking around. After collecting the souvenirs, we made our way back to the old port and took the sea bus back to the ship.

Once onboard, we decided to give Patrick a rapid Covid test as we’d brought some with us. It came back negative thankfully. We took it easy the rest of the afternoon. We watched the activity in the new port from our balcony for a while. We were docked right beside a ferry terminal so watched several ferries come and go. Some of the ferry companies have very original names such as “Blue Star Ferries” and “Gold Star Ferries” which made us chuckle.

Michael and Amanda decided to go for a bit of a swim while a bunch of the other guests were still exploring Mykonos. We all went to the pool deck to grab some ice cream and then Darrell and Patrick returned to the room so Patrick could take it easy. He was feeling more like himself but his nose was a little runny.

At 6:00pm we headed to the main dining room for some dinner. We all had rack of lamb and Tres Leche cake for dinner except for Michael who went with a grilled cheese sandwich and a banana split. It was an enjoyable dinner but Michael was disappointed by the grilled cheese. There wasn’t enough cheese in it. The ship pulled away from Mykonos while we were having dinner which we could watch through the dining room windows.

Michael ran off to Adventure Ocean once he was done dinner while the rest of us went to the Shore Excursions desk to verify if we needed to take towels from the ship for our tour tomorrow. We will be visiting a water park for part of the day after doing a morning tour of Ephesus. They confirmed that we did need to take towels, so we made a trip to the pool deck to grab some before retiring to our room for the night. It will be an early morning and Patrick needs a good night’s sleep.
